The special healing power attributed to the Sóstó’s water dates back to the age of King Matthias. According to the polyhistor scientist, András Jósa, the water in the lake can heal “scrofula, rheums, and podagra”.

This thermal water, falling in the category of bromic-iodic mineral waters, is excellent for mitigating spinal diseases, rheumatic symptoms, problems of the locomotor system, gynaecological symptoms, and for rehabilitation and follow-up treatments.

How can you use medicinal bath treatments?

The patient is not required to pay if he or she has a case history*, valid Hungarian health insurance, and the bath’s medical doctor refers him or her to a medicinal bath treatment subsidised by the National Health Insurance Fund of Hungary (OEP) to be used in one of the medicinal departments of our medicinal bath (OEP finances a maximum of 2 treatments a year).

*case history: the patient, who had participated in a rheumatologic examination at least once, has been diagnosed with a rheumatologic disease or a disease of the locomotor system, and the patient shows the examination results and findings to the bath’s doctor.

The patient is required to pay a fee for the medical bath treatment if:

• he or she has no valid Hungarian health insurance,
• only a treatment not subsidised by OEP can be prescribed for him/her,
• he or she only requests an examination to receive information about his/her health conditions, but does not request treatment.
